SUSPICION OF ARSON SUITE NEAR MAIN OUTBREAK POLICE INVESTIGATION (By Telegraph.—Press Association) NELSON, Tuesday Outbreaks of fire in three different parts of the building occurred in the hotel in Nelson last night where the GovernorGeneral, Lord Galway and Lady Galway were staying. Circumstances point to a deliberate attempt to «•-*♦ fire to the building, and the police are investigating.

Their Excellencies were occupying a suite on the same floor as that where the outbreak occurred, Lord Galway coming out into the passageway in his pyjamas to investigate following the alarm. More serious damage was done to the second floor of the north-western wing of the older part of the building. where one room and a passageway outside were badly gutted. Thirteen bedrooms and two bathrooms had the ceilings damaged through flames running along under the roof a distance of 90ft. After the first outbreak had been dealt with by the brigade a lodger transferred to another room in the new wing found the bedding alight j in the room to which he was trans- ! ferred. A thorough inspection was J then made of the whole hotel but half j an hour later another fire was dis- ! covered burning in an unoccupied room on the first floor.
