The U-boat service has taken many months to recover from the defeat it suffered in the early part of the war. Similar training cannot be given in six months, and the present crews j must be a scratch lot. j It is believed that the new subj marines in commission do not exceed j 60. assisted by some Italian submarines. The Royal Navy last winter ; destroyed 17 out of every 20 submarines. and ran do it again with the reinforced destroyer strength.
