CRICKET AND HAYMAKING
(To the Editor.) Sir,—Your correspondent “ Sport ” in Saturday’s issue is carrying matters to the extreme when he suggests that cricketers should offer their services during the coming haymaking season. Why not call on the footballers, golfers, and tennis players? In view of the small number of working hours which volunteers ! could make available on Saturday i afternoons it would be futile to waste time and petrol in providing transport.
A more important aspect under present conditions is that the majority of players remaining are working at a fairly high pressure during the week (staffs have been seriously depleted) and it is essential that they should have regular periods of relaxation. Cricket is more than a game, and I think most people will agree that cricketers should V make hay while the sun shines ” —on their own pitches.—l am, etc., A PLAYER. Hamilton. October 15
