WAIPAWA SEAT
NATIONAL CANDIDATE MR C. G. E. HARKER CHOSEN LOCAL BODY EXPERIENCE (By Telegraph.—. Special to Times) WAIPAWA, Tuesday The National Party’s candidate to contest the by-election for the Waipawa seat made necessary by the death of Mr A. E. Jull, is Mr C. G. E. Harker, a Waipawa barrister. Mr Harker was chosen from six nominees by a meeting in Waipawa tonight of 231 delegates, representing 2750 financial members of various branches of the party in the electorate. Mr Harker’s selection was popularly received by the meeting, and the other nominees indicated their confidence in the candidate and promised their support in the campaign. Mr Harker has taken a prominent part in the development of the Waipawa district, and has had considerable local body experience, having been Mayor of Waipawa for several years. He is a past president of the Waipawa Returned Soldiers’ Association, and has taken an active part in the affairs of the National Party in his district.
