DUCHESS OF KENT SECRECY IN HOSPITAL CHEERS FOR HUSBAND (Official Wireless) (Received Oct. 16, 11 a.m.) RUGBY, Oct. 15 It is now revealed that the Duchess of Kent has been working at the University College Hospital under the name of “ Sister Kay ” for the last three months, to complete the necessary number of hours of training to qualify fully as a nursing auxiliary. Only a few of the staff knew her identity, and several patients commented on the fact that Sister Kay bore a surprising resemblance to the Duchess of Kent. When the Duke of Kent, as president of the hospital, recently paid a visit, the Duchess was presented to him with other nurses and stood in a group at the entrance which cheered her husband as he left the hospital.

Copyright) LONDON, Oct. 15 German raiders on Monday night used a new type of bomb which is both explosive and incendiary, and explodes in mid-air. It was London's most intensive raid yet. The barrage was in action almost continuously all night. During a raid on a Midlands town bombs fell on a home for aged women, killing three and injuring ten* Another struck a department store, the basement of which was being used as a public shelter, and others demolished houses and damaged office buildings and business premises. Damage Not Heavy The Ministry of Home Security announced in a communique to-night: There have been several attacks on this country to-day by enemy aircraft, mostly fighters. In London a certain number of bombs was dropped in the south and east, but the damage does not appear to have been heavy and the number of casualties was few, but some persons were killed. Elsewhere a few bombs were dropped, but no serious damage is reported. In to-day’s air encounters over Britain the number of enemy aircraft destroyed, as ascertained to 5.30 p.m., was nine. Ten Royal Air Force fighters are reported missing.
