COMMODORE PARRY FULL-TIME NAVAL CHIEF CAPTAIN BARNES FOR ACHILLES (By Telegraph.—-Press Association) WELLINGTON, Tuesday The Minister of Defence, the Hon. F. Jones, announced tonight that the Government had found it increasingly necessary to call the Chief of the Naval Staff, Commodore W. E. Parry, C. 8., into consultation at Wellington, and for other reasons the present circumstances dictated that he should be available for the conduct of naval policy and operations. “It has therefore been decided,” said the Minister, “to terminate the temporary arrangements by which
Commodore Parry as Chief of the Naval Staff while at the same time commanding H.M.S. Achilles and the New Zealand Squadron. “Commodore Parry has, therefore, relinquished the command of H.M.S. Achilles on relief by Captain H. M. Barnes, A.D.C., R.N., formerly in command of H.M.S. Philomel, and will henceforth devote his whole time to the duties of Chief of Naval Staff and first naval member of the Naval Board. “The appointment of a commodore commanding the New Zealand Squadron will be in abeyance for the time being.”
