They were yarning in the club smoke room the other night. Said the man with the calabash: “Girls? Cigarettes are as necessary to the modern girl as lipstick or facepowder.” “ Never smoke ’em,” said the chap sprawling on the divan. “ a briar’s good enough for me, with a full-flavoured baccy that won’t burn the tongue or irritate the throat, but” (with a laugh) “ they don’t seem to make baccy like that now.” “ Try Cut Plug No. 10, old scout,” said the man with the walrus moustache, ** you can puff it for hours without tongue-burning or throat trouble. Hardly any nicotine in it. The toasting does it! And talk about bouquet! My word! Yes, several brands of the real toasted—Cut Plug No. 10 (Bullshead), Navy Cut No. 3 (Bulldog), Cavendish, Riverhead Gold and Desert Gold. The three first are for the pipe; the others make perfect cigarettes.” “ They say * try everything once drawled the chap on the divan, “so I’ll try toasted.” If he tried it once he’ll try it for keeps!
