BOROUGH SEWERAGE REQUISITION WANTED EVIDENCE FOR COMMITTEE

A committee of inquiry of the Health Board will sit in Hamilton this afternoon at the Borough Council Chambers to hear evidence from persons or organisations in regard to the provision of public conveniences in Hamilton and the extension of the borough’s drainage system. The inguiry is the result of the Hamilton Borough’s application to the Board of Health for a requisition in terms of Section 22 of the Health Act, 1920, to authorise it to proceed with the provision of public conveniences and extension of the drainage system. For the conveniences loan, 536 ratepayers were in favour of it and 686 against it, majority 150. The loan for sewerage purposes was also rejected, 441 voting tor it and 775 against, a majority of 334. This morning the Committee of Inquiry, together with representatives of local bodies, made an inspection of the areas that would be affected by any requisition.
