Mr K. L. Usmar. secretary to the Auckland Provincial Patriotic Council, was in Hamilton today. Messrs F. J. Short (Opotiki), R D. Greenhalgh (Auckland) and A A. Green (Hunterville) are at the Hamilton Hotel. Mr G. F. Rudkin, of Wellington, Dominion Grand Master of the Independent Order of Oddfellows, who has been visiting lodges in the Waikato left Hamilton for Tauranga during the week-end. On his retirement from the position of organist of Whiteley Memorial Church, New Plymouth, after almost 43 years’ service in that position, Mr G. H. White was entertained and presented with a cheque for a substantial amount. The Hon. J. Alexander, M.L.C., of Auckland, Mr F. W. Mac Lean, of Wellington, civil engineer representative on the Board of Health, Dr. T. R. Ritchie. Wellington, of the head office of the board, and Mr C. J. Drake, secretary to the board are in Hamilton conducting an inquiry in regard to drainage proposals. Mr H. Prowse, a member of the instructional staff of the Invercargill Borstal Institution, who will leave tomorrow on transfer to Waikeria, was met by members of the staff last week and presented with an electric water jug, as a mark of esteem. Mr Prowse went to Invercargill eight years ago to join the staff of the Borstal Institution, and during his stay there has been connected with the Southland Technical College, the Art Society and the Institute of Public Administration.
