DEARER TRAM RIDES

SUNDAYS AND HOLIDAYS (By Telegraph.—Press Association) WELLINGTON, Monday By 10 votes to 6, the Wellington City Council adopted a report from the Tramway Committee advocating proposals to increase tram fares on Sundays and holidays, to reduce the number of rides on one section concession tickets from eight to seven, and to revise the system of bus fares. The increase in operating expenses as a result of the recent 5 per cent rise in wages was estimated in the report as £16,900 a year, which, unless steps were taken to meet the position would result in a loss for the year of £18,900. The proposed new charges are to be submitted to the Price Investigation Tribunal for approval.
