MOTORCYCLIST DRUNK
MAORI FINED £lO (Special to Times) TE AWAMUTU, Monday Driving a motor-cycle while drunk at Te Awamutu on Saturday cost Tommy Andrew, a Maori, £lO this morning when he appeared before Messrs W. Jeffery and A. Law, justices of the peace, at the Te Awamutu Court. He pleaded guilty and was not represented by counsel. Sergeant S. G. Clist stated that at about 5.30 on Saturday evening. Traffic Officer F. C. Cook saw defendant riding a motor-cycle along Sloane Street. An erratic course was taken by the rider who apparently intended turning down Arawata Street but could not do so and made Alexandra Street instead. He was taken to the police station where he was later examined by a doctor who certified that defendant had apparently taken liquor and was not fit to be in charge of a motor vehicle. Defendant admitted taking 15 drinks during the day. He had had the cycle for two years and had been riding motor-cycles for four years. His license was cancelled for 12 months.
