ARRIVED FROM ENGLAND

MISS V. COX RETURNS Arriving in New Zealand this week, via Panama, Miss Vivienne Cox, of Hamilton, who has been in England for approximately two years, has many thrilling experiences to relate of her voyage, which, although under wartime conditions, she thoroughly enjoyed. In commenting on London since the War, Miss Cox spoke of the sadly altered aspect of the city, stately Whitehall now being a mass of barbed wire, Hyde Park criss-crossed with trenches and traps for parachutists, and everywhere guns in prominence. The majority of the people seems to be in uniform—Tommies, Anzacs, Czechs, Poles, Frenchmen, and everywhere the women of the services. She spoke of the arrival of the New Zealanders and Australians, who, in no time, seemed to be everywhere, and were immensely popular. The black-outs she described as rather exciting and the average pedestrian’s method of progress with his hands stretched out in front of him, and interspersed with numerous jolts when a kerbstone was safely negotiated, seemed more humorous than difficult. Miss Cox was employed up to the time of her departure with a large concern in the Strand, and although, in many ways, very glad to be home again, she regrets leaving the interesting life she led in London.
