AMUSING YARN

WELLINGTON “ REVOLT ” ROME RADIO BROADCAST DEPARTURE OF TROOPS (By Telegraph.—Press Association) WELLINGTON, Thursday A cablegram received in Wellington tonight from Sydney stated that a radio broadcast from Rome reported that a rebellion in Wellington was preventing the embarkation of troops for overseas. When the Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. P. Fraser, was asked to comment for the purpose of refutation by the Australian short-wave radio to Europe, he said the people would be highly amused when they learned of this fantastic nonsense. Obviously this lie was too ridiculous to warrant serious notice from him or any other responsible source.

The whole-hearted devotion of all the people of New Zealand to the British cause and their determination to assist to the utmost of their power in the successful prosecution of the war against Hitler and Mussolini needed no reiteration on his part, concluded Mr Fraser.
