LIMIT EASED

TROTTING Cl'P ENTRIES (By Telegraph.—Special to Time*) CHRISTCHURCH. Thursday It has been announced by the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club that horses assessed on 4.28 and faster will be eligible for the next Trotting Cup. Although the limit will be 4.26, with a stake of £2500, similar conditions to those governing the race last year will again be in operation, the committee reserving the right to select the horses to go to the post. In the event of a horse on a mark slower than 4.26 being placed third the stake for that position will be increased by £IOO. At present there are probably 14 horses assessed on 4.26 or faster who could be regarded as almost certain to start In the Cup, but the fact that at least seven would form three brackets—Parisienne, Southern Chief and Great Jewel being trained by R. B. Berry. Morello and Fine Art by M. C. McTigue, Plutus and Marlene by C. S. Donald—apparently is responsible for the club allowing the more loosely assessed horses to be entered, to overcome a possible shortage of betting units if the race were to be confined to the 4.26 class or better.

There are nine pacers on 4.27 and 4.28. the best of them being Nell Grattan, Lightning Lady, Horse Power and Colonel Grattan. However, all have had numerous opportunities to take tighter marks, and jt Is doubtful if their presence in the Cup would add to its attractiveness.
