CUTTING IN

CAR FORCED OFF ROAD INCIDENT NEAR OHAUPO “ I am satisfied from the evidence that you were guilty of a piece of highly dangerous driving,” said Mr S. L. Paterson, S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court, Hamilton, today when convicting John Ambros Heskett on a charge of cutting in when passing another vehicle near Ohaupo on June 21. Heskett was fined £2 and costs I and had his license endorsed. 1 Traffic-Inspector D. Morrow said that he followed Heskett when travelling from the Te Awamutu races. When near Ohaupo defendant overtook another vehicle, allowing approximately one foot of clearance. The driver of the other vehicle was forced off the road. Similar evidence was given by Alan Wright, the driver of the other car, who said he had to run off the road to avoid being hit. Heskett said he gave warning that he was going to overtake, but Wright’s car speeded up to a considerable extent. He gave Wright’s car plenty of clearance.
