TROOPS PRAISED
RAILWAY COMPANIES ARMY CHIEF’S INSPECTION PARADE AT HOPU HOPU CAMP Praise for the bearing and efficiency of the men of the special Railway Operating Group, New Zealand Engineers, of the Second New Zealand Expeditionary Force was expressed by Major-General Sir John Duigan, K.8.E., C. 8., D. 5.0., Chief of the General Staff, when he inspected the troops at Hopu Hopu camp yesterday. He was accompanied by Colonel N. W. McD. Weir, officer commanding the Northern Military District. Major-General Duigan also expressed appreciation of the response made by the men of the Railway Group to the urgent appeal for mobilisation and the progress they had made in training in such a short time. More than 1000 troops of the Railway operating Company, New Zealand Engineers, paraded under Lieu-tenant-Colonel A. H. Sage, M.M., officer commanding the group. It consisted of the 13th Railway Construction Company under Major J. Smith, the 16th Railway Operating Company under Major F. W. Aicken, and the 17th Railway Operating Company under Major G. T. Poole. Captain J. N. Nicholson is adjutant of the group. Major T. A. Oliphant, M.C., is camp commandant.
