BALL AT HUNTLY

N.Z. LABOUR PARTY One of the most successful functions held under the ausfiices of the Huntly branch of the New Zealand Labour Party was the fourth annual ball in Vie Town Hall, there being a large attendance, including many visitors from the outlying districts. The Mayor and Mayoress, Mr and Mrs W. C. E. George were present. Half of the proceeds were donated towards providing comforts for the soldiers. During the evening about 30 soldiers from the Hopu Hopu camp assembled on the stage and sang by request the war songs of the Railway and Maori Battalions. A happy time was spent in dancing to music provided by Mr J. Bogie and his Elite Band. Extras contributed by Messrs N. Stowe, M. Northmore and R. Knapper were much appreciated. Messrs J. Tait and D. Nicholson were efficient masters of ceremonies.

The winners of the novelty dances were Miss C. Hildebrand and Mr C. Bullock (Rotowaro), Mrs Currail and Mr F. Litt, Miss H. Tweedie and Mr R. Knapper, Miss and Mr Peattie, Miss Pat Smith and Mr Hildebrand, and Miss Ann Deakin and Sapper Harcamb. The prize winners at euchre were Mrs J. Shaw and Mr D. Luke and Mrs D. Luke and Mrs W. Smith.
