CLOTHING ON FIRE TETROL STOVE EXPLOSION MAN BROUGHT FROM WAIHEKE (By Telegraph.—Special to Times) AUCKLAND, Monday His clothing almost burned from his body, Mr William James Morris, aged 53, single, was brought from his bach at Palm Beach, Waiheke Island, to the Auckland Hospital on Saturday night by truck and launch. It is believed that Mr Morris was lighting a petrol stove and that it exploded, setting fire both to his clothing and the building. He rushed out of the bach with his clothing ablaze and collapsed on the roadway, where he was found by neighbours. They covered him with rugs until the arrival of the Waiheke district nurse and the St. John ambulance officer. He was then moved to a store and first-aid treatment given until he could be driven in a truck to the wharf at Ostend. He. ■was suffering from extensive burns to the head and body. At Ostend Mr Morris was placed on board Mr J. Kennedy’s launch and, after permission had been obtained from the naval authorities to enter the harbour; brought to Auckland, where he arrived at 11.15 p.m. His condition last 'night was considered serious.

The bach was burned to the ground.
