WAIKATO FARMERS PLAY THEIR PART.
gg 111 111 k 11 WAR-TIME PRODUCTION INCREASES APACE. i m
On every farm, in every factory, carefully prepared plans to increase primary production are rapidly maturing. As one man, Waikato farmers have I rallied to the Empire’s cry for greater production. Dairy leaders confidently ilg I state that the fertile Waikato district will be able to supply the bulk of the 15,000 extra tons of cheese for which the Government is asking. The swing-over from butter to cheese supply will entail sacrifices on the part of many farmers, but en- . thusiastically and cheerfully they are responding to the call. Dairyfarmers §39 s£s
have arranged to carry extra head of stock, have culled out poor-producing beasts and substituted animals that will increase the butter fat yield. All this will mean extra labour which will fall mainly on the farmer’s own shoulders, for the call of the military forces has represented a big drain on the number of farm labourers available. However, primary producers, while realising that their’s is no light task, are determined that they will shoulder it with courage and resolution. Britain has asked for their assistance and they are determined to give it. s
