TOBACCO GROWING
PRICES FOR 1940 CROP (By Telegraph.—Press Association) WELLINGTON, Thursday A price order has been issued by the Price Investigation Tribunal fixing a basic average price of ls IOJd a round for flue-cured tobacco leaf and Is 7id a pound for air-dried leaf of the 1940 crop. In explanation of the order the Minister of Industries and Commerce, the Hon. D. G. Sullivan, said these were the minimum average prices to be paid by all manufacturers in respect of aggregate purchases of leaf grown during the 1939-40 season. The Tobacco Board recommended that the minimum average prices to be paid by all manufacturers for the 1939-40 crop be on the same basis as the preced- - ing year.
