CHAMBER OF COMMERCE REVIEW OF YEAR’S OPERATIONS MR F. W. BEVIN FARE WELLED (Special to Times.) TE AWAMUTU, Wednesday At the annual meeting or the Te Awamutu Chamber or Commerce, the president, Mr G. A. Gibbs, in his report, said that the financial year concluded on June 3 0 with 5 4 members, of which 4 3 were i financial. The receipts and payments account showed a cash surplus or £l2. ! During the year the ehamber had been unfortunate in losing the services of Its | president. Mr R. G. Connal, who was transferred to Palmerston North. Mr Connal had been a keen executive member of the chamber, and m-s resignation ! was greatly regretted. Another old and [ much-valued member, Mr J. Oliphant, } was away from the district, as a member of the military forces. Mr F. W. Bevin, who was leaving shortly on transfer to I Pieton, had also resigned, j During the year the chamber had been 1 active in matters aifecting the town, and measures brought about by the chamber's efforts were reversion to angleparking Tor motor vehicles in Alexandra Street, bettor servire on the local telephone exchange, and the sorting and delivery into boxes of the evening mails. For some time the chamber had been agitatln for improvements at The local railway station, and extensive alterations had been planned. JefTery, was set up to make any representations on the subject of town-plan-ning to the local authority. Farewell Presentation At the conclusion or tne meeting, opportunity was taken to bid farewell to Mr I-’. W. Bevin, who has been manager of the local branch of the Bank of New Zealand for many years, and leaves on Friday for rieton. The president, Mr G. A. Gibbs, referred to Mr Bevln’s association with the chamber Tor a long term during which he had hold office as president and member of the council. Other speakers endorsed the president’s remarks and paid tribute to Mrs Bevin also. Mr Bevin suitably acknowledged the remarks and a presentation made to him.
