46-DAY HITCH-HIKE
AUSTRALIA TO BRITAIN
STEAMER AND AEROPLANE (United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright) LONDON, August 13 “It was a 46-day, 26,000-mile hitch-hike,” said Mr R. D. EUiott after his arrival in Britain as the first through-flying passenger from Australia since the Mediterranean blockage. Mr Elliott, who had just dined With a member of Cabinet, and who was sent for by the Minister of Aircraft Production, Lord Beaverbrook, to assist him, refused to give details of his appointment. At Singapore, he said,' passengers on the aeroplane in which he travelled were told to return to Sydney, because the flying service had been, dislocated. However, he stayed on, and after three days was flown in a bomber to Tiberias, Palestine, and thence by flying-boat to Cairo. From there, he endeavoured to reach England by a Royal Air Force machine, but London friends decided that this would be too risky, so he flew to Durban, and from there .sailed for England.
