POLISH HEROISM
GREAT FIGHTING QUALITIES TRIBUTE FROM POLITICIAN (United Press Assn.—riec. Tel. Copyrig-ht)
LONDON, August 5 In a broadcast on the occasion of the signing of the agreement between Britain and Poland, Mr Victor Cazalet, M.P., after recalling the many personal ties which existed between the two countries for 300 years, described how 50.000 Polish soldiers escaped from Poland into France after their country had withstood the whole might of the German war machine for five weeks.
Polish soldiers had fought valiantly in France and Norway and were among the first to take Narvik. They were among the last to be evacuated from France and now were putting their magnificent fighting qualities at the disposal of Britain. Their airmen would shortly be in the skies alongside the Royal Air Force, bombing and fighting the Germans. “The presence of the Polish President and Government and of General Sikorski and his forces on British soil.” said Mr Cazalet, “is a worthy symbol of our determination to carry on the struggle together until victory is won and the rights and independence of our Allies are re-established in a peaceful Europe, freed from the dire domination of that nation which so ruthlessly started a world war by its unwarranted and unprovoked attack on the Polish people.”
