White Island Active

An unusually high column of vapour has been rising from the crater of White Island since Sunday, states a message from Opotiki. At times the column has been rising to a height of several thousand feet, with a considerable width. The display has presented a fine sight, the great white column showing up plainly against the blue background. It could be seen rising at a considerable rate, the formation changing shape quite frequently.
