HUNTLY MANSE
ERECTION DEBT-FREE PRESBYTERY CONGRATULATION The Moderator, the Rev. D. C Mclntyre, presided over the meeting of the Waikato Presbytery held in Hamilton yesterday, there being a representative attendance of ministers and elders. Motions of condolence with the relatives of the late Revs. Egerton Ward and I. Bertram, former members of the Presbytery, were carried in silence. Intimation was made that Miss Sutherland, a missionary from the Indian field, would be in the Presbytery from August 16 to September 9 and an itinerary arranged by the convener of the Missions Committee was approved. It was agreed that the home missionaries be cited to attend and submit reports on their work at the next meeting. Requests that the terms of Messrs Brabyn (Kihikihi) and Silton (Kihik.hi) be extended are to be submitted to the Missions Committee.
Mr Gavin reported that the repairs to the Huntly manse had been completed. The estimated outlay was £2BO, but the actual outlay was only £230, the cost of the materials, as all the work had been done free. It was decided to congratulate the congregation upon the fine spirit shown, as the work had been carried out without debt. It was stated that there was no Presbyterian chaplain at the Ngaruawahia camp, where there were from 1500 to 1600 young men in training, many of whom were members of the church. It was decided to request the chaplains* committee to either make an appointment or accord the Rev. A. C. Rankin, of Huntly, who frequently attended the camp by special request, official status.
