OPPOSITION TO WAR

LITTLE SUPPORT IN .AFRICA FAILURE OF PROPAGANDA (United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright) LONDON, July 3 The former South African Minister of Defence, Mr O. Pirow, in a speech at Bloemfontein, declared it was necessary for South Africa to make a separate peace with Italy and Germany. “Our internal problems cannot be solved unless the country discards the forms of Government introduced by Rhodes and Milner and returns to the days before the Boer War,” said Mr Pirow. One of a series of Nationalist meetings of protest against the war policy of General Smuts was held at Bloemfontein. The correspondent of the Times says the campaign is failing to gather momentum in spite of intensive propaganda.
