POTATO SHIPMENT

AUSTRALIAN ARRANGEMENT 1000 TONS THIS MONTH (By Telrirrnnh. —Press Association) WELLINGTON, Monday The first shipment of potatoes from New Zealand to Australia under the new agreement will be made this month, said the Minister of Marketing, the Hon. W. Nash, tonight. Mr Nash said the quantity to be shipped by the first boat would be 1000 tons. The Commonwealth Government had agreed to 5000 tons being imported in all. Asked if any arrangements had been made to exchange potatoes for Australian wheat, Mr Nash said that nothing had been done. He added that New Zealand would, however, have to buy wheat from Australia again this season. It had long been hoped in New Zealand that a sufficient acreage would be sown to provide the Dominion with its full wheat requirements, but the hope had not been realised. The area sown for the coming season was less than expected.
