MOPE OF HUMANITY

FAITH IN BRITISH NATION PROTECTION OF DEMOCRACY TRIBUTE FROM URUGUAY United Pres? Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright) LONDON, July 6 The Prime Minister, Mr Churchill, has received from Senor Jose Serrato, president of the pro-Allies committee of Uruguay, a message expressing profound faith in the destinies of democracy, of which the British Empire is to-day the principal bulwark. “The British nation,” the message stateu, “is the hope of humanity and the trustee of the faith of the civilised world.” Another striking example of the confidence which is held in British strength by many parts of the world who enjoy its protection is reported from the venerable Sheik Kheiruddin Alamuddin, a descendant of the Fatimite Caliphs, and head of the Bohr a community in Aden. He has written the Governor saying it is decreed that he is now to witness a second war in which the bravery of Englishmen will be an example for the coming centuries. The sheik says he has not left Aden, and does not intend to leave, because he is confident the Government will protect the people of Aden. “The enemy is being frustrated by the Aden defence,” says the message. “Blows are being directed against the enemy’s own house and a spear fixed in his heart.”
