SCENE IN HOUSE
PREMIER CHEERED LOUDLY SHOWS SIGNS OF STRAIN RAPID, DECISIVE ACTION (United Press Assn.—Elec. Tci. Copyright) LONDON, July 5 Describing the scene in a broadcast, Mr J. B. Priestley te’d of the signs of heavy strain upon Mr Churchill, who was cheered as he entered the House—yet how, as he took his seat, he gave the Minister of Labour, Mr Ernest Bevin, a sharp dig in the ribs, his face lighting up for a moment in a “devil-may-care-grin.” In his references to the Bordeaux Government and its subservience to its “German masters,” Mr Churchill’s tones held a fine edge of scorn, said Mr Priestley. As the Prime Minister described the naval action at Oran his voice revealed his instinctive delight in rapid and decisive action, yet there was no note of gloating.
