DRAWN CLOSER

AUSTRALIA AND DOMINION @ r- _ BROADCAST BY MINISTER GREAT SPIRIT OF UNITY (United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright) MELBOURNE, July 5 In a Commonwealth news broadcast last night the New Zealand Minister of Supply, the Hon. D. G. Sullivan, delivered an address in which he emphasised how the war had drawn Australia and New Zealand closer together. He said that as a result of contacts he had made with leaders of the Government, business men, and, more important still, the man in the street, he was deeply impressed with the spirit of unity behind the tremendous war effort in Australia, which was no less manifest in New Zealand. There was full appreciation in these countries of the problems facing them in the present crisis.

Mr Sullivan added: “I have seen your munition factories and other industries dealing with war supplies and equipment, and I am deeply interested in the work being done to meet whatever contingency may arise, enabling the people of Australia to play a full part in the struggle for the preservation of democracy and freedom. My remarks also cover the workers who are doing a great job for Australia and the Empire. “The New Zealand Government has appealed to everyone to make a 100 per cent effort, just as you are doing in Australia, in this great national crisis. There can be only one object—to win the war. We are fighting for our national existence and security. United in Determination “Without unity there can be neither security nor happiness. I have found a splendid realisation in Australia of the task which lies ahead. The same feeling exists in New Zealand and, come what may, your people and our people are determined to stand side by side in the defence of all that is sacred to Australia and New Zealand.”
