ATTACKS IN WAVES
DAMAGE AT ROTTERDAM SEVERAL SALVOES OF BOMBS (United Press Assn.—Elec. Tei. Copyright) LONDON, July 2 Aircraft of the Coastal Command and the Fleet Air Arm, attacking in waves, bombed aerodromes and barges on a canal at Rotterdam early this morning. A direct hit on an ammunition barge produced a tremendous explosion. The aircraft found broken cloud when they arrived over Rotterdam. It suited them admirably, screening them from ground defences and from enemy fighters. They were able to ido their bombing through clear I patches and immediately take cover j again. j Through the gaps the pilots could | see massed searchlights. They i bombed them and the lights went out. Other lights showed the position of the aerodrome, on which more salvos fell. The pilot of a naval aircraft attacked barges in a river. After one of his salvos there was an explosion so great that he could see the flash through the dense clouds in which he was flying. Many fires were burning on the ground when the air- | craft set their course for home.
