OBITUARY

MRS A. M. HQDGSON The death has occurred of Mrs Ada Maria Hodgson, of Tamahere, in her 76th year. Born in Lepperton, Taranaki, Mrs Hodgson was the first white child born in that district. She lived there until 1893. She married the late Mr Thomas Oliver Hodgson, who died in 1922. Mr* Hodgson was a schoolteacher in the Lepperton district. From 1893 until 1911 she lived in Eltham, and then came to live in Tamahere. She was interested in church and social affairs, although she had been for eight years an invalid. Mrs Hodgson is survived by six sons, Messrs H. T. Hodgson, W. J. Hodgson (Te Awamutu), J. L. Hodgson, P. W. Hodgson and M. C. Hodgson (Tamahere) and K. O. Hodgson (South Africa). There are 22 grandchildren. MR WILLIAM ROGERS (By Telegraph.—Press Association) NELSON, Thursday The death has occurred of Mr William Rogers, managing director of the Anchor Shipping and Foundry Company, aged 79. His 65 years’ association with shipping commenced m 1875 when he joined the firm of N. Edwards and Company. Graduating from clerk to purser in 1882, he became shipping manager of the Anchor Steamship Company, When the Anchor Shipping Foundry Company was incorporated in 1901, Mr Rogers took over the general managership, which position he held till 1936, when *he was appointed managing director. Mr Rogers was a director of Griffin and Sons and the Nelson Tobacco Company, and was chairman of the New Zealand Shipowners’ Federation from 1934-40.
