PREVENTION OF CRUELTY J WAIKATO SOCIETY MEETS So far as finance is concerned, the ] year had been a difficult one, stated | the report presented by the chair- j man, Mr S. B. Sims, at the annual meeting of the Waikato Society for j the Prevention of Cruelty to * Animals. Lack of funds had curtailed the 1 society’s activities, continued the report, and owing to the urgent calls upon the public in other directions, this condition was likely to continue. However the society felt justified | in appealing to those who were in sympathy with its aims and objects to do all within their power to accord it their practical support. The total income was £143 10s lid, j which was a decrease of approxi- j mately £4O. The expenditure was J £167 6s 4d, about £ls less than the 1 previous year. Von Sturmer; ladies committee, Mesdames A. E. Savage, H. J. Beeche, D. I. Gate, A. Lewis, R. Mears and W. M. Walker; hon. secretary and treasurer, Mr E. V. Oldham; hon veterinary surgeons, Messrs T. A. Blake, J. Mullins and D. D. Wilson; hon. solicitors, Messrs D. Seymour, N. D’Arcy Smith, R. W. Bennett, D. H. Hall (Taumarunui), and P. A. Harran (Whakatane); hon. auditor, Mr E. H. O’Meara; inspector, Mr J. B. Grant; hon. inspector, Mr J. B. Somerset. i Bobby Calf Traffic With a view to improving control over the bobby calf traffic, the meeting decided to ask the Federa- , tion of New Zealand Societies for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals to urge upon the Internal Marketing Department the desirability of having all calves sold tagged with the owner’s name and address. The meeting was of the opinion that all calves should be killed on the day of collection, and that with this end in view, killing depots should be established in the Taumarunui and Whakatane districts.
