CAMBRIDGE POWER
BOARD’S MONTHLY MEETING MONEY FOR WAR PURPOSES (Special to Times) CAMBRIDGE, Tuesday At the monthly meeting of the Cambridge Power Board, the chairman, Mr M. Wells, presided, and there was a good attendance of members. The Power Boards’ Association wrote stating that an Order-in-Coun-cil had been gazetted authorising all local authorities to make straightout gifts or loans for war purposes. “This means we will be able to give money to the Government without interest,” stated the chairman. He suggested that the matter be deferred until the wishes of Mr Nash were made known to the public. The electricity controller brought before the board the fact that facilities were available for the manufacture of transformers in New Zealand. It was stated that as a result difficulties of delivery would be obviated, provided orders were placed within reasonable time. The engineer, Mr H. C. Oaten, stated that New Zealand-made transformers had been used by the Cambridge board for the past six months, and they had proved very satisfactory, both in finish and performance. A saving in freight made the price a little cheaper than the imported article. The engineer reported that connections now totalled 1892, a total gain of 18 for the month. The board agreed to assist members of its staff while they were on active service, each case to be treated on its merits. The matter will be considered further at the next meeting of the board.
