SITTING OF PARLIAMENT RESPECT TO SIR W. CARNCROSS \Ly Telp«trar»&.—Special to T!rnes> WELLINGTON, Tuesday A brief sitting of the House of Representatives was held tonight, when tributes were paid to the memory of Sir Walter Camcross, who died on Sunday. After passing a motion recording Sir Walter’s distinguished services and the sympathy of Members with his relatives, the House adjourned as a mark of respect until tomorrow night, when a start will be made with the financial debate. The first speaker will be the Leader of the Opposition, the Hon. A. Hamilton, and it is expected that he will be followed by the Prime Minister, the Hon. P. Fraser. The Prime Minister moved the motion of condolence with Sir Walter Carncross’ relatives and it was seconded by the Leader of the Opposition, the Hon. A. Hamilton. “He was a notable figure in the political life of this country, and he played a prominent part from the moment of his entry into politics,” said Mr Fraser. “He was conspicuous in the Liberal Party in the time of Ballance, Seddon and McKenzie.” Tributes were also paid by Mr Hamilton, Ministers and other members of the House. The Soldiers Guarantee Bill, providing among other htnigs a guarantee of at east five years’ employment for soldiers, sailors and airmen on their return to New Zealand, was introduced by Mr J. A. Lee (Democratic Labour—Grey Lynn). It was read a first time. The House adjourned at 8.20 p.m. and will resume *at 7.30 tomorrow night.
