REVENUE INCREASE

CUSTOMS AT WANGANUI (By Telegraph.—Press Association) WANGANUI, Tuesday Although customs revenue in most centres is showing a steady decline because of import and petrol restrictions, Wanganui’s customs revenue for the six months up to June 30 is 4 per cent more than for the same period of 1939. The total revenue for the period is £117,992. Net customs revenue increased by 14 per cent. There was an increase of 59 per cent in beer tax and sales tax increased by 9 per cent. Tyre tax is the only item in which a big decrease is recorded, but a drop of 59 per cent did not represent much loss of revenue, as the total was £1146 for the six months, compared with £2077 for the same period of 1939. Petrol tax yielded £27,196, a decrease of only 6 per cent.
