CHANGES AT WAIOURU 1000 MEN TO BE EMPLOYED 7,000,000 FEET OF TIMBER (By Tclcgraph.-Prcss Association) WANGANUI, Tuesday A wonderful transformation has been made at Waiouru Camp, near Taihape, within a week, as part of the scheme to expand the camp to accommodate 5000 territorials. Bulldozers and other machines are engaged in levelling the camp, which was built last year to accommodate 2000 men. A plantation of pinus ins.ignis tre?*-, has been removed to make way for the new buildings. Masses of material, including timber, have been railed to Waiouru railway station. Building work has not yet begun, but when it is in full swing about 1000 tradesmen will be employed. It is estimated that seven million feet of timber will be used in the buildings. Men are arriving daily for the Public Works Department, which proposes to employ between 400 and 500 men, these being called from a§ far away as Wellington. Double shifts are being worked with the machines and lorries, and when re T quired the lorries will work three shifts in carting the material from Waiouru station.
