HIGHER VALUE
BUILDING PERMITS LAST MONTH’S FIGURES BIG DROP FOR HALF-YEAR The building figures for last month in Hamilton disclose an encouraging improvement in value of permits over the figures for the other months of this year. However, the total for the first six months of this year shows a substantial drop on the corresponding figures last year. One of the most notable declines is in the number of new houses built in the borough, there being 40 this half-year compared with 75 for the same period last year. Last month the Hamilton Borough Council issued 17 permits of a total value of £19,511, five new house:, accounting for £5061. Of the remaining amount about £15,000 was for addition and alterations in the business area. The only Garden Place permit was one for the remodelling of Mrs W. Gruar’s building on the southern corner of the area, on the Victoria Street frontage. The following tables show the figures for the months of this year and last year:—
