PLANS WELL ADVANCED (By TPlPtrrapTi.—Sprrial to TlmeO WELLINGTON. Wednesday The area of land required in the South Island for the growing of linen flax is well in sight, according to an announcement by the Minister of Supply, the Hon. D. G. Sullivan. ‘T have received advice from the High Commissioner. Mr W. J. Jordan. that the 500 tons of seed required have been shipped or are about to be shipped.” the Minister said, “and at the same time the necessary organisation in the Dominion has been progressing rapidly. By tomorrow all the growing centres will have been visited by departmental officers. The following areas have already been signed up:—Rangiora, 1000 acres; Timaru. 1200; Methven. 900; Balclutha. 1000; Tapanui, 650: Otautau. 600: Winton, 300. Further contracts are being signed up rapidly.” The Minister added that arrangements were practically completed for I the manufacture of nearly all the machinery in New Zealand.
