ADVANCE OF THE GERMANS PENETRATION IN NORMANDY (United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright) BORDEAUX, June 18 A French night communique stated’ After a violent attack the enemy today penetrated deeply into Normandy and Brittany, and advanced units reached Cherbourg and Rennes. There was violent fighting southward of Cheaydyn. On the middle Loire the enemy established several bridgeheads between Orleans and Nevers. Enemy masses between the Loire and the Vosges continued to advance. Fighting continues in Lorraine, also in Alsace, where our troops are holding the enemy. Copyright) (Received June 20, 12.45 p.m.) ROME, June 19 A war communique states: “Our aeroplanes during a maritime reconnaissance sank an enemy submarine. “The situation in North Africa is unchanged. “In East Africa, an English column, supported by armoured units, sought to infiltrate our lines by hoisting the Italian flag but was efficaciously dispersed.
“Our aviation attacked enemy airbases in East Africa, burning three planes. Enemy planes in this sector bombed a farming village and killed hree women and some children.’ “The enemy during the night made aerial excursions dropping several bombs in the centres of Liguria an<j Piedmont.**
