NEGLIGENT MOTORIST
COLLISION WITH CYCLIST FINE OF £2 IMPOSED An acccident at the intersection of King Street and Devon Road, Frankton, on May 2 had a sequel before Mr S. L. Paterson, S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court, Hamilton, today when William Edward Armstrong, of Frankton, was charged with negligent driving. Defendant was represented by Mr K. L. Sandford, and the case for the police was conducted by Senior-Sergeant G. H. Lambert. Pauline Mary Harris said that while she was riding her cycle from King Street into Devon Road she was struck by defendant’s car, which \\as approaching. She had put out her hand to indicate that she was going to turn, and she had almost completed her turn. It was 5.25 p.m., and she did not think it was dark enough for a light. Sergeant H. Fryer said that when he yisited the scene he found the car on its incorrect side of the road. Armstrong must have begun to turn before he reached the area of the intersection.
Mr feandford said Armstrong I waited, as he should have done, to I see which way another car would go. and he then turned in the track j which other cars used. It was the ! cyclists duty to wait for the car to : pass.
Armstrong was fined £2 and costs, the magistrate stating that he had cut the corner and had failed to keen a proper look-out.
