Copyright) BUENOS AIRES, June 12 An explosion, followed by fire, damaged the* Royal Mail cargo steamer Gascony, of 4716 tons, while she was being loaded at Buenos Aires. A member of the crew said the explosion was caused by an incendiary bomb. One stevedore was killed and five were injured, some seriously. Crates of canned beef were being loaded into the ship and the explosion occured while one crate was being swung into the hold. The fire spread to the oily bilge, but was extinguished quickly, after which there was a second explosion in a sealed hold, indicating the use of a timing device. At least 40 persons were arrested, including some members of the crew, stevedores and bystanders.
