LABOUR FOR FARMS PUBLIC WORKS RESPONSE 1000 WILL GO ON THE LAND (By Telegraph.—Pres* Association) WELLINGTON, Friday The Minister of Labour, the Hon. P. C. Webb, stated to-day that there had been an excellent response from men on public works to the Government's appeal to transfer to farm work. Already 2000 men had been interviewed, and of those 1000 had expressed keen desire to co-operate in every way and to take farm work. Of the thousand, no fewer than 500 had farming experience.
j The number of farm vacancies notified to June 8 was 90 throughout the Dominion. 62 being for experienced and 28 for inexperienced men Apart from men on public works, the Labour Department had the names of 460 men who were available, including 72 experienced workers, j The Minister said he was confident that these numbers would be increased, and sincerely hoped that farmers would make early arrangement to employ these men.
