OPENING ON MONDAY
NEW WEST SCHOOL EXCELLENT FACILITIES The new Hamilton West School will be used for the first time on Monday, when the pupils will move cut of the old building situated in Anglesea Street. The old school is now approaching its 78th. year and the present roll number is 361. A magnificent structure, with large playing grounds, including a fulllength football field, the new school occupies a commanding position in Richmond Estate. The new building consists of a large line of spacious rooms, with a. verandah running along the front, facing a northerly direction, and thus receiving the sun at all parts of the day. The teachers’ facilities are excellent, almost every room having a wash-basin with hot and cold water, and numerous cupboards set neatly into the wall. The building is also very well ventilated and a feature is the small tables and chairs, instead of desks, for the infants. The school compares quite favourably with any in the Dominion and Hamilton is indeed fortunate in having such a fine school. Opening Ceremony The official opening, which will be performed by the Minister of Education, the Hon. H. G. R. Mason, will not take place till a later date as, owing to parliamentary duties, the Minister will be unable to perform the ceremony at present.
