TIPS ON HORSES
CIRCULARS SENT OUT ORDER TO LEAVE COUNTRY (By Telegraph.—press Association) ' AUCKLAND, Monday A fine of £3O and an order to leave New Zealand forthwith were imposed on Raymond Dennison, aged 24, when he pleaded guilty in the Police Court to five summons charges of sending circulars to persons with intent to induce them to apply to “R. Burke” with a view to obtaining advice for the purpose of wagering on horse races. The police produced one of the circulars sent out by Dennison, who arrived from Australia towards the end of February. “On his own admission he sent out 1000 circulars each week,” said Detective-Sergeant McHugh. “Although he doesn’t know the horses, he says he was going to study form and would tip good things to ‘the mugs,’ who would send him £l. He says he got 20 replies weekly.” The magistrate, Mr C. R. OnWalker: In the circular he says he would refund the £1 sent him if the horses ran unplaced. Detective-Sergeant McHugh: But he admitted to Detective-Sergeant Alpin that he had not refunded any money.
