FAT STOCK SALES SHARP RISE IN SHEEP LOWER RATES FOR COWS AUCKLAND, Thursday : A rise of several shillings in sheep values was the main feature of the fat stock sales at Westfield yester--1 day. The ox section fully maintained ruling rates. However, a larger yarding of cows and heifers was not so keenly sought and values declined. Steers made to £l4 17s 6d and cows to £ll. Last week’s best prices were £ls and £lO 12s 6d respectively. A short offering of sheep resulted in spirited bidding. Wethers made to 39s 3d, as against 33s 9d, and ewes sold to 30s 6d, an increase of 2s 9d. Under steady competition, late rates for lambs were fully equalled. The best price was 375, against 33s 6d at the previous sale. Extra heavy prime runner calves sold very well, and some high values were realised. price for this section was £9 19s, for an outstanding runner, compared with £8 17s last week. Vealers sold to £4 10s, a decrease of 13s. Bidding was steady for an increased yarding of pigs. Baconers made to £4 15s and porkers to £3 Is. Dalgety and Company Sheep.—A small entry of fat sheep met with spirited bidding, and values for all classes took a decided rise. Competition for a good offering of ox beef was steady and values showed little or no alteration. A large yarding of choice cow and heifer beef was not so keenly sought, and values showed a decline on late sales.
