The Age Question
“ The age question has given us a lot of fun,” said Mr H. G. Livingstone at the Anzac reunion of the Christchurch Returned Soldiers’ Association when speaking of the keenness of many former soldiers to enlist again. Mr Livingstone, \yho was for some time Area Staff Officer in Christchurch, recounted the type of conversation which sometimes followed such an application for enlistment. “ How old are you?” asked the interviewing officer, of one applicant, and the recruit unblushingly gave his age as 35. “ But why are you so keen to sail with the 2nd Echelon? ” and it was eventually learnt that the recruit had a son sailing with tha*. body. “ And how old is he? ” The recruit was off his guard. “ Twentythree,” he replied
