OBITUARY

MRS ELIZABETH ANN KEELEY FORMER CAMBRIDGE RESIDENT The death has occurred in Hamilton of Mrs Elizabeth Ann Keeley, a member of a well-known Cambridge family, at the age of 64 years. Born in Cambridge, Mrs Keeley was a daughter of the late Mr and Mrs Richard England, pioneer settlers of the district, who arrived jin New Zealand from Grimsby, England, in the late ’sixties. Mrs Keeley had many vivid memories of the early days in Cambridge, and could recount tales of the times when Te Kooti was at large and was hunted by the whites. Mrs Keeley was married over 40 years ago in Cambridge to Mr William Keeley, a member of a prominent Cambridge family which settled in the district in 1875. Mr Keeley was engaged in contracting work for many years and formerly drove the stage coach between Cambridge and Rotorua. He was engaged on one of these trips when the Tarawera eruption occurred, being near Rotorua, and he used to give a vivid account of the occurrence. In 1913 Mr and Mrs Keeley moved to Hamilton, where they lived for the remainder of their lives. Mr Keeley died in 1916. Mr and Mrs Keeley were connected with the Salvation Army for many years, Mrs Keeley being a member for 49 years.
