THREATS BY NAZIS
THE BRITISH BLOCKADE PRESSURE ON NEUTRALS “ GERMANY WILL SEE ” (United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright) BERLIN, April 6 “England’s bow will crack if it is drawn much tighter,” says the German press, referring to the blockade. It adds: “Germany will see whether Scandinavian neutrality proves itself. Britain’s endeavours to accomplish such a blockade will lead her from economic warfare to military action.” The German Foreign Office has telegraphed to Dr. Darre, Nazi Minister of Agriculture, who is in Budapest, instructions to speed up the negotiations with Yugoslavia, Italy and Hungary. The German Government stated: “Britain will not find it easy to catch up with us. Any country modifying its trade policy toward the Reich will be unneutral.” Nevertheless, spontaneous anger is rising in Yugoslavia because that country has been dangerously depleted of meat supplies owing to abnormal exports to Germany. The German response to “Enco,” the new British trading concern, is a threat of intensification of economic pressure on all neutrals.
