slump in consumptionno REDUCTION IN RATE United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright) LONDON, April 6 Traders are not very optimistic regarding the possibility of an early reduction in the fixed price of butter. in spite of tiie continued slump in consumption. It is too early to estimate accurately the response to the ration of eight ounces a week, but it appears that consumption will not rise much above five ounces per head. Meanwhile, stocks in cold storage must be growing, with the reported steady imports from Continental countries, in addition to Empire sources.

It was announced in the Daily Herald last week that the Ministry of Food would be forced to reduce the price of butter from the fixed rate of Is 7d per lb to Is 4d. Butter consumption in Britain is now estimated at 5000 to 6000 tons a week, against 8800 a year ago.
